Initially, a black eagle on gold background used to be the German Flag. The flag was initially used during the 14th century, and the design was adapted slightly in the 15th century and hovered through the 19th century. The first flag that was near to modern design was flown in 1918 during the Weimar Republic period.
In 1930s, Nazis took over power in Germany and they used two national flags. The first flag of German feature black, white and red stripes. The second landscape a swastika symbol. The C-Pennant was designed in red, white and blue. But since 1990, after reunion, they modified to the current flag that flies today.

The Federal Republic of Germany reinstated the old black-red-yellow flag on May 9, 1949, and the government complete use of similar flag with the eagle shield in the center.
