In 1958, the national flag of the Central African Republic was officially approved. The design of the flag has remained unchanged since its approval. The flag features four horizontal bands of blue, white, green and yellow. There is a single vertical band of red joining all the stripes. Central African Republic flag has a yellow five-pointed star at the upper left corner.
A yellow star seemed in the hoist corner as an escort for future development and an emblem of unity. Blue was said to position for liberty, grandeur, and the sky, while white color was for transparency, equality, and candor. Green signified the forests of the state; yellow recommends its savannas, and red color for the common blood of all humanity. The link between Europeans and Africans was established in the red vertical band that traversed the other four colors in flag of Central African Republic.
1 December 1958, the flag of the Central African Republic was accepted by the Legislative Assembly. At the time, the flag symbolized the four territories establishing the French Equatorial Africa. The red band which crosses the four colors is the symbol of our blood shed for protecting the Central African Republic.
On 1976, President Jean-Bédel Bokassa replaced the flag in order to feature a crescent and star prominently. But, the suggestion was short lived as numerous months later the Central African Empire was shaped under Bokassa, as Emperor Bokassa I. On 4 December, a Constitution labeled both the emblem for the Emperor's personal use and the current flag was re-used as that of the Empire. The personal standard of the Ruler was light green in color, with a gold-colored eagle in the midpoint superimposed over a 20-pointed gold star.
The design contains of four horizontal stripes and one perpendicular stripe, and a solitary yellow five-pointed star in the top left. The colors selected are planned to be representative of France (blue and white) and Africa (green and yellow) with the red upright stripe concerning them both in unity. The yellow star is envisioned to be revealing of independence. The Constitution of the Central African Republic defines the flag as the red stripe is said to represent the blood of humanity and symbolizes the respect that Europeans and Africans have for each other.
