The flag of Vatican City was accepted on June 7, 1929, the year Pope Pius XI contracted the Lateran Treaty with Italy, making a new independent state governed by the Holy See. The Vatican flag is demonstrated on the 1808 yellow and white flag of the previous Papal States, to which a papal tiara and keys were later, added to Vatican City Flag.
The flag of Vatican City is a square-shaped perpendicular bicolor. The two stripes comprise of a yellow or gold stripe on the hoist side and a white stripe on the fly side. The Vatican City coat of arms in Flag of Vatican City is landscaped at the middle of the white vertical stripe.
The design of the flag looks like that of the previous Papal States, which was a red and yellow cockade. In 1808, the Vatican’s Noble Guard conventional an order from Pope Pius VII to substituted the red color of the cockade with white. Mean-the-time, a white merchant flag was previously in usage in the Papal States. The flag was presented in 1803 and included the Papal coat of arms at the middle. The flag was officially approved in 1815, and was afterward substituted by a yellow and white flag on September 17, 1825. Square-shaped yellow and white flags were accepted by the papal infantry in 1831. When Italy captured the Papal States in 1870, the flags of these states developed archaic. In 1929, the merchant flag of 1825 was approved over as the flag of the newly shaped Vatican City. However, this new flag was square-shaped like the previous infantry flag.
The Vatican City coat of arms landscapes two main constituents: the papal tiara and two crisscrossed keys. One of the keys is excellent in color, while the other is silver. The latter is placed in the dexter site of the flag. The keys represent the Keys of Paradise, and were available to St. Peter by Christ. Subsequently the popes are stared as St. Peter's successors; the keys are one of the most significant elements representing the Holy See. The gold and the silver keys characterize spiritual and worldly powers, respectively. Also, the colors of the flag characterize the colors of the key, where yellow signifies the golden key and white characterizes the silver key.
