In July 30, 1980 the national flag of Vanuatu was adopted on the occasion of Independence Day. Vanuatu Flag features red, green, black and yellow color. A parliamentary committee selected the final design built on submissions from local artists.
A flat bicolor of red and green with the black isosceles triangle built on the hoist side manner the golden boar's tusk surrounding two crossed namely cycad fronds in the center and the golden pall, a thin yellow horizontal band that splits in the form of the horizontal Y, middle over the divider lines and was bordered in black against the red and the green stripe while the two points of the Y expressions on each corner and enfolds the triangle on the hoist-side.
At the initial South Pacific Games in 1963 a squad from the New Hebrides (now Vanuatu) showed a flag of blue-yellow-white perpendicular stripes with a dominant emblem. Later, political parties advanced flags of their individual. Not astoundingly for a Melanesian-populated area, the outdated colors red, black, and green found favor. In 1977 a flag of nearly the same colors and representation as the future national flag was intended by local artist Kalontas Malon (Malon Kalontas) and approved by the Vanuatu Party. Following minor alterations, it was pulled as the national flag on Independence Day, July 30, 1980.
The flag of Vanuatu was authoritatively accepted on February 18, 1990. The Vanuatu hawser of islands is in the outline of a Y, and the yellow flat Y on the flag is illustrative of same, as well as yellow being figurative of sunshine; green figurative of the fertile lands, red symbolic of bloodshed for autonomy, and black signifies the Melanesian individuals that initially settled the islands.
