History of Senegal Flag

Under French colonial law over Senegal, the establishments prohibited the colony from using its own idiosyncratic colonial flag since they were worried that this could upsurge nationalistic mawkishness and lead to calls for freedom. With the rise of the decolonization movement in Africa, the French were grateful to grant limited independence to Senegal as a self-governing state within the French Community. Senegal associated with French Soudan on April 4, 1959, to form the Mali Alliance. That day, a new flag was accepted: a vertical green, yellow and red tricolor with a stylized depiction of a human being on the centre band. The federation reached individuality from France on June 20, 1960.
