The initial flag of sovereign Malawi was approved on 6 July 1964. The mounting sun signifies the dawn of hope and freedom for the landmass of Africa. Malawi Flag has 31 rays of the sun characterize the fact that Malawi was the 31st African country at the time of its freedom.
The black characterizes the original people of the continent, the red signifies the blood of their fight, and the green characterizes nature. The Flag of Malawi looks like the Pan-African flag designed by Marcus Garvey's Universal Negro Improvement Association. The color red and black stripe upturned and a red sun in the top. It also looks a lot like the flag of the now-obsolete Republic of Biafra.
Latterly in 19th century, the country that is now Malawi applied the flag of the British Central Africa Protectorate. This ensign was in usage until 1914. Besides, Malawi developed the colony of Nyasaland and had its individual flag. This flag was alike to the preceding flag with the omission of the emblem. This version was applied until 1919, when another was accepted. The new design for the flag lasts for 50 years, until 1964. When Nyasaland augmented its freedom from the British, it adopted a new national flag. This flag was in use from 1964 to 2010.
A new flag was accepted in July of 2010. The bands were changed from the preceding design to better match the Pan-African layout. The rising sun was substituted with a centered sun. The United Democratic Front confronted the flag variations along with public as well. Many people objected it as an unlawful flag and raised complaints to its adoption. However, in 2012, Parliament restored the flag of 1964.
The present form of the flag of Malawi was accepted in 1964. The flag comprises of three bands stripes - black, yellow and green. In the black bar, a sign of growing sun with 31 rays is situated. The black color is made-up to represent the people of the country, the red bands for bloodshed in the brawl for independence of African states and the green characterizes vegetation of Malawi. The theme of the rising sun prompts hope after realizing independence, but also the meaning of word Malawi - an effect which happens over the Lake Nyasa at sunset. The flag was enthused by the flag of the Malawi Congress Party.
