On May 1966, the Guyana gained its independent from United Kingdom. Since then, Guyana Flag has remained the national flag of the country. It was designed originally without the black and white composition, later there were made additions to the flag. The colors proportions of the national flag are 3:5. The colors are representative, with red for zeal and vitality, gold for mineral prosperity, green for agriculture and woodlands, black for resolution, and white for rivers and water.
Furthermore, Flag of Guyana came into effect by announcement issued on 23 February 1970. Following President’s amended; this Proclamation replaced the description of the flag limited, to reproduce the Presidential Standard they wish to present for the length of their Presidency.
When freedom struggle began early in 1960s against British Guiana, an opposition elicited many applications for a new national flag, counting one developed by an American, Whitney Smith, who later developed a prominent flag. The pattern mutual had a red background, green hoist triangle, and stylized yellow arrowhead. The Guyanese upturned the green and red and supplementary a black composition to the triangle and one of white to the arrowhead.
