On September 15, 1952, the first flag of Eritrea was formally approved on the day when British establishments surrendered control over the area to Ethiopian-Eritrean Federation. Its light blue contextual was to honor the flag of the United Nations (UN), which had aided the country to self-government. Eritrea Flag Design and Symbolic Meaning

The flag comprises of three triangles of three diverse colors - red, green, and blue. The red isosceles triangle is founded on the hoist-side and its point is on the fly-side. Two exact triangles lie on either side of the red triangle and together are based on the fly-side. The point of the red triangle splits the bases of the green triangle on the top side and the blue one on the bottom side. The red triangle comprises of vertical olive branch that is surrounded by an olive wreath. The branch and the wreath are to the hoist-side of the flag.

The green color represents livestock and agriculture. The blue color and the red color depict for the sea and the blood lost in the independence struggle. The olive wreath with 30 leaves characterizes the number of years spend on war to attain independence.
