In 1997, when the Mobutu government was conquered and the country expected its current Congo Democratic Republic flag will face some change in design, the country returned to 1960's post-independence design of the flag. The flag features a single large star and six smaller stars.
In 2003, the most current change before the acceptance of the current flag, the flag's color was adapted to use a lighter shade of blue. The current Flag of Congo Democratic Republic, which has been approved in 2006, and it is composed of a blue sheet, red diagonal band and a yellow five-pointed star at the upper of the left part of the flag.
The preceding flag was accepted in 2003. It was alike to the flag used between 1960 and 1963. The 1877 design contained a yellow star on a blue contextual. The 1877 flag sustained as the flag of the Congo Free State after the terrain was documented as an official ownership of Leopold II at the Berlin Conference. After gaining liberation from Belgium on 30 June 1960, the same rudimentary design was maintained. However, six smaller stars were supplementary to the hoist to symbolize the six shires of the country at the time. This design was used only from 1960 to 1963.
The flag of the second Republic of Mobutu Sese Seko developed the official excellent after Mobutu recognized his dictatorship. This flag was used from 1966–1971 and contained of the similar yellow star, now complete smaller, located in the top corner of the hoist side, with a red, yellow-lined band consecutively diagonally across the center. The red represented the people's blood; the yellow symbolized affluence; the blue signified hope; and the star embodied unity.
The sky blue field separated diagonally from the bottom hoist corner to top fly corner by a red band bordered by two narrow yellow bands; a yellow, five-pointed star seems in the top hoist corner; blue signifies peace and hope, yellow the country's prosperity and wealth; red the blood of the country's sacrifices, and the star represents unity and the vivid future for the country.
