The national flag of Costa Rica is built on a design formed in 1848. It is also used as the authorized ensign, and comprises of coat of arms of Costa Rica. Costa Rica Flag also used as an informal national flag, omits the coat of arms.
The flag was formally accepted on 27 November 1906, counting a slight alteration to the placement and design of the rooted in coat of arms. Flag of Costa Rica was rationalized to reflect simultaneous modifications to the state coat of arms in 1964 and 1998. The flag of Thailand is alike to the Costa Rican flag, except there is no emblem, and the blue and red bands are upturned. It is also resembles historic flag of allied-occupied Germany, and North Korea. However, all these flags had thinner white stripes.
During most of its foreign period, Costa Rica was the southernmost sphere of the Captaincy General of Guatemala, which was supposedly part of the Viceroyalty of New Spain, but which in repetition operated as a largely independent entity within the Spanish Empire. The land of current Costa Rica was enclosed by the numerous flags of the Spanish Empire until 1823.
Costa Rica was share of the Federal Republic of Central America, a sovereign state in Central America, which comprised of the lands of the former Captaincy General of Guatemala. A republican democracy, it was from July 1823 to 1841. During this period, Costa Rica used the flag of the United Provinces of Central America, increased by differences specific to the State of Costa Rica within the United Provinces of Central America. When the Federal Republic of Central America informally dissolved by 1841, Costa Rica completed a further alteration to its specific variation of the United Provinces of Central America flag.
The white color depicts for peace, understanding and happiness. The red color represents for the blood spilt by sacrifices in protection of the country, warmth and generosity of the people. The bands are in the ratio 1:1:2:1:1. The coat of arms of Costa Rica was also reread in 1848 and positioned in the center of the flag.
Costa Rica is situated in Central American isthmus. It shares its borders with the Caribbean Sea to the northeast, Nicaragua to the north, Panama to the southeast, Ecuador to the south of Cocos Island, and the Pacific Ocean to the southwest. It has a population of around 49.1 lacs having population density 84 people per square kilometer (220/square mile).
Costa Rica is a unitary presidential constitutional republic. The official language of Costa Rica is Spanish and the currency is Costa Rican Colón. Being a unitary republic, Costa Rica comprises a total of seven independent states that are also called as provinces. These include: Alajuela, Cartago, Guanacaste, Heredia, Limón, Puntarenas, and San José.
