The green field and the yellow rhombus are taken from the previous imperial flag. However, there is a slightly altered is seen in Brazilian Flag in hue and shape. The green depicts the House of Braganza of Pedro I, while the yellow signifies the House of Habsburg of his wife. A blue ring with white five-pointed stars substituted the arms of the Empire of Brazil.

September 7, 1822, Dom Pedro announced the country’s independence.
